Information for All Racers
Thank you for participating in our first annual paddle race on the Cumberland River in Clarksville, TN. We are excited to get you out on the water! Friends of the Clarksville Blueway and Clarksville Parks and Rec has put together a great program for all.
Please meet at Liberty Park at the Marina no later than 5:45a.m for registration (Staff will be there at 5:00a.m.). You will see signs on where to park. You will check in at the registration table, sign a liability form and receive your race number. The Liability Waiver must be signed in order to participate in the race. Check in according to your designated Heat. The email with you assigned area will be sent out on Wednesday evening.
The busses will leave promptly at 6:00 (Heat 1 & 2) and 6:30a.m. (Heat 3 & 4) to take you to the Conservation Club where you will start the race. DO NOT try to park at the Conservation Club or get someone to drop you off. EVERYONE regardless if you rent a boat or have your own boat will meet and register at Liberty Park Marina.
If you are using your own boat (not renting), you must drop your boat off at the Conservation Club on FRIDAY, the 23rd between 6-8:00p.m. FOCB has volunteers who will be camping out to take care of your boat. The more boats we can get on Friday, the faster we can get you in the water. Organization is key!
Once you arrive at the Conservation Club, you will be given a briefing on how to line up, get your life jackets and paddles. You MUST wear your life jacket during the entire race. If you are bringing your own boat, make sure you bring your own life jacket. We will not be able to put you in the water as part of the race without a life jacket.
The race will consists of heats where you will be paired with racers who have about the same experience. Kurt, who is in charge of line-up, will be announcing your name. Please pay attention and keep conversation to a minimum during this process.
The FOCB crew will get you in the water and will start your heat. The Cumberland has a nice flow and will take you straight to your destination which is right at 5 miles to Freedom Point in Liberty Park. EMA, TWRA, Fire Dept., Coast Guard and a few FOCB volunteers will be in place along the race. Should you need any assistance, please call Melissa at 931-320-0345 or Naomi at 850-572-2156 and someone will be right there to get you. Buoys will be in the water to show the finish line before your reach the pull-out point (the stoney stairs in front of the Freedom Point building.) A crew will be there to assist you getting out of the water. DO NOT go past this point and try to use the boat ramp. No one will be at any other location to pick you up and your boat.
Once the race is over, the times will be posted at the Outdoor Expo Band Stage and awards will be given around noon once all racers have made it to the destination. Please be flexible on the time.
We would love for you and your family to join us for the Outdoor Expo from 10:30-3:00p.m. There will be entertainment, expo booths, demos with kayaks, canoes and standup paddle boards for all to try on the water and a kid’s boat race for ages 8-12 starting around 1:00p.m. There will be food vendors.
